A big week for awards from Strategic Vision and J.D. Power

Two important reports, and lots of vehicles found here at Barnett ranked among the very highest.

Strategic Vision’s 23rd Annual Total Quality Impact (TQI) report
Four of our favorites led their respective segments in total quality. In its inaugural year, the all-new 2017 Chrysler Pacifica led all minivans. Dodge Charger won its segment for the third time in four years while Dodge Durango led its segment for the fourth time in five years.

Jeep Wrangler four-door was previously named the best Entry SUV three consecutive years (2014 – 2016), but this year Wrangler two-door led the segment.

"Customers increasingly measure 'Quality' by the 'Total' experience. Yes, counting problems factors in, but getting things right and presenting innovative experiences that people love has great impact,” said Christopher Chaney, Senior Vice President, Strategic Vision. “FCA has done all of this with segment winners Dodge Charger and Durango, Jeep Wrangler and now Chrysler Pacifica, which redefines its segment."

Strategic Vision’s 23rd annual TQI report is based on results from the New Vehicle Experience Study (NVES), surveying more than 42,000 new vehicle buyers who purchased vehicles from July-December 2016 after the first 90 days of ownership. It incorporates the impact of problems with the vehicle, as well as the drivers’ analytical and emotional evaluations of quality.

According to the San Diego-based research firm, its TQI score is a holistic measure that encompasses positive and negative product experiences. This includes reliability, actual problems, driving excitement and other measures that collectively are energized by the emotional response associated with the aggregate of all those experiences—hence Total Quality.

J.D. Power’s 2017 U.S. Automotive Performance, Execution and Layout (APEAL) Study

Chrysler Pacifica and Dodge Challenger led their segments. For the fifth time in seven years, Challenger ranked highest among all vehicles in the Midsize Sporty Car segment.

In addition to being the highest-ranking minivan in the J.D. Power 2017 U.S. Initial Quality Study (IQS), Chrysler Pacifica led its segment in this year’s APEAL study. This back-to-back J.D. Power honor was only achieved by seven other models in the entire industry.

Dodge Durango and Charger also performed well in the APEAL study, ranking second and third in the Midsize SUV and Large Car segments, respectively.

Additionally, the Chrysler brand is the industry’s most improved brand with a 41-point improvement in the brand’s score from last year’s study.

The APEAL Study, now in its 22nd year, measures how gratifying a new vehicle is to own and drive, based on customer evaluations of 77 vehicle attributes of new 2017 model-year vehicles. Customers are surveyed after 90 days of ownership at the same time as J.D. Power’s IQS. According to J.D. Power, the most appealing vehicles have greater owner loyalty, command higher transaction prices and spend less time on dealer lots before purchase.

“We’re pleased to see results like this as they reflect our commitment to quality, which is evident not only with new product launches like the all-new Chrysler Pacifica, but also in mainstay vehicles like the well-regarded Dodge Challenger, which captured its fifth APEAL honor in seven years,” said Scott Garberding, Head of Quality. “My colleagues and I are focused on not only launching new vehicles with industry innovations and segment firsts, but also consistently improving vehicles in our existing product portfolio.”
